On a discussion board that covered the We...Randy,

On a discussion board that covered the West Memphis 3 a question was asked in 2006 about the apparent genital mutilation aspect of the crime by someone who was pretty new to the case. A more knowledgeable poster responded in part, "The Prosecution, as far as I know, had no theory as to what they were actually used for, per se, like where are they, but by putting a 'occult expert' on the stand, they asked him questions to which he answered, basically, that the date of the murders was near a 'Witches Holiday', and that the blood is thought to be a source of power by some."

Since that time, the notion that one of the boys was mutilated by the killer has been questioned. This link suggests that animal predation was the explanation for the state of the bodies. My point is that stories about Witches Holidays are fine for campfires, but they are brought up by prosecutors more than they actually happen. The crime was horrific, and the parents must have endured something I cannot imagine, but that does not change fanciful tales about witchcraft into reality. Obviously I see a parallel to the present case, in the allusion to the occult that Mignini brought into the pre-trial and (according to Ms. Nadeau's book) wanted to reintroduce in his closing remarks.Chris Halkideshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14933976220776524122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8731849270338485723.post-71446374737017331472011-08-20T01:08:47.868-04:002011-08-20T01:08:47.868-04:00West Memphis Three...can't say I have heard of...West Memphis Three...can't say I have heard of them at all until today...watched a 48 hours episode from 2010 on CBS.com

Satan ritual, mysterious knife, lack of evidence at the scene (admittedly I don't know many of the facts), strange behavior by one of the defendants during the trial- the one who was on deathrow, questionable confession from another trial possibly factor in guilty verdict. Jury Foreman read about confession that was not supposed to be used in the trial in a newspaper and said it was a major factor in his decision. The three men in jail released- is that the fate for AK & RS?

sad and horrific ending for the 3 little boys who were killed.

back to the case in Perugia, seems like Mignini has been awfully quiet. DNA samples cannot be dated. Massei has a story about them that is one of many stories that can be told but not proven. Even the absurdly pro-prosecution Colonel Garofano had doubts about the bidet drain; Amanda's DNA might have been there for weeks before Meredith's presumed blood was deposited.

The other problem with the mixed DNA sample is the collection technique. The forensic police should have changed gloves after every sample but did not. They dropped one swab and continued to use it. They may have mixed the samples themselves.Chris Halkideshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14933976220776524122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8731849270338485723.post-14124969539271812002011-07-13T09:57:56.525-04:002011-07-13T09:57:56.525-04:00Massei answers those who say that ‘Knox and Kerche...Massei answers those who say that ‘Knox and Kercher’s DNA should have been in a bathroom that they both shared’ with a very valid explanation, and he explains that these mixed traces were deposited by Knox simultaneously (on that night and not over the course of time).DNA testsHaider Ali Mussadaqhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04852517448692706860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8731849270338485723.post-20171950307867398032011-07-12T16:43:45.042-04:002011-07-12T16:43:45.042-04:00Here is a reference to a good review article on pr...Here is a reference to a good review article on presumptive and confirmatory tests:
Virkler, K.; Lednev, I.K. It seems like a neverending quest to refute the confusion spun by Stefanoni, Massei, and then the guilters at TJMK, who use their words to justify their hoky theories, for example:

"Massei answers those who say that ‘Knox and Kercher’s DNA should have been in a bathroom that they both shared’ with a very valid explanation, and he explains that these mixed traces were deposited by Knox simultaneously (on that night and not over the course of time).

“Against this conclusion, the observations with respect to the shared use of the bathroom by the two young women, the resulting likelihood of their biological traces being present, and the way in which these specimens were gathered [by the police], are not valid, in the sense that they are not considered either convincing or plausible, neither in relation to the overall situation present in the bathroom, which has been described, nor with [regard to] the statements made by Gioia Brocci and by Dr. Stefanoni, who both stated that the trace specimens present in the bathroom and in the bidet were of the same colour, as of diluted blood, and appeared to constitute one single trace, one [part] in the bidet and one in the sink. The drop at the top [302] and the drop at the bottom had continuity and formed a continuous pattern. The specimens were collected accordingly, just like any other specimen which necessarily occupies a certain space, and which the technician does not collect one little spot after another.” (Massei page 280)"

I would love to hear your take on how Stefanoni could come up with this "drop at the top...drop at the bottom" has a "continuous pattern" and is therefore mixed blood. Have you heard of anyone using this kind of rationale before to determine whether or not a blood sample is comprised of two different people's mixed together? What do you think of this?Vancouveritenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8731849270338485723.post-57176029330480633312011-07-09T18:11:41.820-04:002011-07-09T18:11:41.820-04:00Kaosium,

I completed a sentence that was just a phrase in the section on the pink bathroom photo, and I added a link to explain why I think that incident was important.

Let me add one thought that I hope to explore further at some point. Barbie Nadeau (pp. 152-153, Angel Face) quotes one of the jurors, “’To have mixed blood, you have to both be bleeding,’ one of them remarked to me after the verdict. ‘It was obvious Meredith was bleeding, but why was Amanda bleeding?’” I asked a physician whether or not bruising would occur if Amanda had been hit in the nose, as some have theorized. He said that blood might flow between the dermis and epidermis but that make-up could conceal the likely bruise. Amanda was given a physical examination after her arrest, yet no report of bruising or other wounds has ever surfaced.Chris Halkideshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14933976220776524122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8731849270338485723.post-92193113548771040332011-07-09T15:03:21.879-04:002011-07-09T15:03:21.879-04:00Wow, that was...complete. Other than you scared the hell out of me reading about the NC SBI.

I did notice the link to "Bilous and coworkers" produces a 404 error.

I think this was related to need on the part of the prosecution. They got this 'evidence' at the same time they 'collected' the bra-clasp when the case against them seemed to be going south. Spraying luminol all over the floor and then presenting everything to the court as being blood looks damn suspicious, at first glance regarding the accused, and then in perspective against the prosecution.Kaosiumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03072817874327010156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8731849270338485723.post-35845221421081682482011-07-08T16:52:57.613-04:002011-07-08T16:52:57.613-04:00RoseMontague,

Would they have done a proper confirmatory test, such as the one for glycophorin A I mentioned or some other biomarker? In fact, at the level of dilution that exceeds what TMB can detect, the reaction of Luminol is barely perceptable.
So the problem with the prosecution claim that the TMB was negative because of the blood content being highly diluted is just another false claim, an additional example of bad science on the part of Stefanoni and her circus.RoseMontaguenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8731849270338485723.post-76387141442791007252011-07-08T13:59:33.691-04:002011-07-08T13:59:33.691-04:00RoseMontague,
